We in the US still have to wait on Hyundai’s new Kona EV, but our friends in Norway will take delivery very soon of Hyundai’s newest electric vehicle.
As we all may or may not know, Norway loves its EVs. So it’s no surprise that companies would prioritize their EV releases to this electric loving country.
The new Kona EV isn’t set to come out in the US for another 3-5 months (“Coming this Fall”). But after Hyundai had more than 20,000 Norwegian customers waiting to throw their money at Hyundai to get this car Hyundai decided to make deliveries in July. Bad news is, they will only allocate 2,500 Kona Electrics to Norway so that they can balance out production for other market. That makes 17,500 sad Norwegians. Still with no official pricing in the US, this can give us an idea of what the cost of the car will be.
For reference, the gasoline-powered Kona costs 254,900 NOK ($31,140):
- Kona Electric 64 kWh Technology 325,900 NOK ($39,813)
- Kona Electric 64 kWh Technology with leather interior 335,900 NOK ($41,035)
- Kona Electric 64 kWh Technology 345,900 NOK ($42,256)
- Metallic paint costs: 345,900 NOK ($598)
- Prices include guiding shipping and delivery costs of NOK 10,900, delivered to Drammen.
Obviously this doesn’t mean that the price will be $39,000 in the US, but it does show us that there is an $8-10k difference between the ICE version and the EV version. If we apply that to the top of the line Kona which costs $26,900 we would get a price that ranges from $34,900 to $36,900. Currently there aren’t really any full electric cross overs in the States, so if you are in the need for one, this might be your car. In case case you need a refresher on some of the specs.
