Mercedes has revealed the starting price of their luxury electric car, the EQS. When the new Mercedes electric car makes its way to US shores, it will carry a starting price of $102,310 (plus a $1,050 destination charge).
While the EQS is not the first model in Mercedes-Benz’s EQ line of electric cars, it will be the first of the line to make it to the United States. While the line’s debut model, the EQC was supposed to launch here as well, several delays have sidelined the electric SUV.
The EQS will come in two distinct models. The first is the EQS 450+ which features only a single rear motor making 328 horsepower. The second is the more powerful EQS 580 4MATIC. As the name implies, this version is all-wheel drive and has a dual motor setup that outputs 522 horsepower.
Each model comes in three distinct trims that get progressively more expensive and more feature-filled as you go up. The trim names are: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle.

It seems that the Pinnacle trim level is geared completely towards improving the rear passenger experience. One big difference between the two models that is independent of which trim you get is the center console. The Mercedes EQS 450+ comes with a relatively simple 12.8″ OLED touchscreen display. In most vehicles, this would be a very respectable infotainment screen. However, the 580 4MATIC comes with the MBUX Hyperscreen which merges three screens under a single piece of 56-inch curved glass.
Other interior standard features found include “rapid-heating and ventilating front seats, leather seating surfaces, active multicontour front seats with enhanced massage and comfort headrests, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging in the front and the air balance cabin fragrance system with a new HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, thus eliminating 99.65% of particles of all sizes.”
It’s no secret that Mercedes will want to get the best of the newly updated Tesla Model S. The S-Class holds a lot of cache in the luxury car world and we imagine that Mercedes would like to continue that into the electric age. While the EQS is significantly more expensive than the Model S, for some people the extra luxuries found in the interior might end up being worth it.
We will be looking forward to comparison tests when the Mercedes EQS hits dealers this Fall. The brand is also looking to add an entry-level model, as well as a performance version sometime in the future.
