Electric Porsche Macan Allegedly Starts Production in 2022

by Denis Gurskiy

Porsche surprisingly seems to be one of the most gung-ho companies to move forward with electrification, especially after considering its racing pedigree and its driving enthusiast demographic. But with the Taycan now available for purchase, Porsche is setting its sites on its most sold model, the Macan.

We, of course, have known for more than a year at this point that Porsche was planning to create an electric Macan. However, it was initially planned to be announced at the end of 2019 and with production start at the beginning of this decade. That has not been the case.

So when can we expect the electric Porsche Macan to hit the streets? According to German media outlet, Automobilwoche, it will be in two years’ time. According to the report Porsche Executive Board Member for Development Michael Steiner, allegedly stated that production for the electric Macan is expected to begin at the end of 2022.

With the production stated to begin at the end of 2022, it would mean that we will not see an electric Porsche Macan until at least 2023 if the report is true.

Aside from the electric Macan riding on the Audi/Porsche co-developed PPE (premium platform electric) platform, we know nothing of what the electric SUV will bring. There have been rumors of the top trimmed model having over 700 hp which will double up the 349 hp that the current Macan S provides.

It is a rather gap between the release of the Taycan and the presumed release of the electric Macan, especially if Porsche doesn’t release an electric car in that time frame. However, the Macan is Porsche’s best selling model so I am sure that the German automaker would like to make sure that its electric offering will be appealing as possible especially with rumors that the next-generation Macan will be the last one offered with a gasoline engine.

If Porsche cannot provide a compelling enough product with the electric Macan then it will be a huge blow to the number of cars they’ll be able to sell.

When do you guys think the electric Porsche Macan will make its debut? What kind of specs do you think it’ll have? Let me know down in the comments below.
