Tesla has now officially opened over 10,000 Superchargers around the world.
It is better late than never for Tesla as they intentionally wanted to open 10,000 Superchargers by the end of the year. But it took an extra extra 5 months to get to this milestone. With the opening of 5 new stations this week Tesla has hit 1,261 stations around the world with (as of the time of writing) 10,021 superchargers.
But this isn’t the end, Tesla has a lot more supercharging stations to open up. Less than a month ago Elon Musk tweeted out:
Yeah, there are thousands of Supercharger locations going through permitting/construction, including that area. Will publish an updated map in the next few days.

Very important to not the use of Supercharger “locations” rather than “Superchargers”. Whether this is just semantics on our part, but if there are thousands of “locations” than it will more than double Tesla’s current amount of 1,261 stations.
According to crowd-sourced data from supercharge.info there are 54 stations under construction and 61 permit sites for stations around the world.
Tesla is putting up stations at record setting pace, this is no doubt in part of them putting more and more cars on the road as time goes on, and to the increased competition from the likes of Electrify America, Ionity, and the like. Tesla will now have to snatch up as many prime locations for superchargers as possible while they have this head start.
