The support for future electric pickups looks pretty bright as companies continue to plan out more electric trucks. One newcomer, Lordstown, who has been primarily been targeting the fleet demographic just announced an important milestone for their first truck, the Endurance, having surpassed 100,000 reservations. To temper expectations, it is important to note that these reservations are non-binding so it doesn’t mean for sure that Lordstown has 100,000 sales secured. Still, it has doubled the 50,000 reservations they reported in Fall, so clearly the brand has been making some headway.
According to the press release, the average fleet order is 600 trucks, so fairly sizable orders coming through. Steve Burns, CEO of Lordstown Motors has the following to say regarding the achievement:
“Receiving 100,000 pre-orders from commercial fleets for a truck like the Endurance is unprecedented in automotive history. Adding in the interest we have from federal, state, municipal and military fleets on top of that, I think you can see why we feel that we are about to revolutionize the pickup truck industry.”
As a refresher, here are some of the specs of the Lordstown Endurance:
- Base Price: $52,500
- Range (EPA cycle): 250+ miles
- Battery Size: 109 kWh
- Charging time (95% SOC, Level 2-7kW AC/Level 3 DC): 10 hrs/0.5 to 1.5 hrs
- Off-board power for tools and accessory (stationary) 120V, 30 amp
- Seating Capacity: 5
- Towing Capacity: 7,500 lbs
- Drivetrain layout: 4 Hub Electric Motors
- Horsepower Peak: 600 hp
- Top Speed (Software Governed): 80 mph
- Gradeability at GVW: 30%
The four in-wheel hub motors are by far the most interesting aspect of the car. While it might not be the first car to do it, it might end up being the highest produced vehicle to use the technology up until this point.
Lordstown is currently working on filling out its factory in Ohio and will look to start production in Fall 2021.
